Long Bio
Kristy McCaffrey has been writing since she was very young, but it wasn’t until she was a stay-at-home mom that she considered becoming published. A fascination with science led her to earn two engineering degrees—she did her undergraduate work at Arizona State University and her graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh—but storytelling was always her favorite hobby. An Arizona native, she writes Old West romances to capture the landscapes that were such a big part of her childhood. Her first novel, The Wren, was a CAPA winner for Best New Author Traditional, a Texas Gold finalist, and a HOLT Medallion finalist for Best First Book. The Sparrow was the 2012 Winter Rose Winner in the Published Historical Division. The Blackbird won the 2015 Laramie award for Best in Western Romance. And The Bluebird was a 2017 RONE nominee in the historical category, as well as a runner-up in the 2017 National Excellence in Romance Fiction Awards, the Golden Quill, and the Aspen Gold Reader's Choice. Kristy also writes contemporary adventure romances with her Pathway series. The first book, Deep Blue, features a marine biologist studying great white sharks. This new series combines her love of animal conservation, environmental awareness, and high adventure, while showcasing honorable heroes, determined heroines, and Kristy’s trademark mysticism. Kristy and her husband live in the Arizona desert where they frequently relocate rattlesnakes from their property. Her four children have flown the nest, so she spends her time doting on Jeb, an American bulldog her family rescued in 2021. She recently lost her beloved chocolate lab, Lily, at the age of 15. She and her husband are currently awaiting the birth of their first grandchild with eager anticipation. Kristy is a member of Romance Writers of America and Novelists Inc.
